What is known about the Heiermann murders?
In 2020, law enforcement officers discovered numerous human remains along Gilgo Beach on Long Island. Most of the murdered women were sex workers, whose deaths occurred between 1993 and 2010.
Police identified Haermann as a suspect in 2022 based on a pickup truck that a witness had seen at the time of one of the victims' disappearance in 2010. Investigators said police obtained cellphone data that showed Haermann had been in contact with some of the victims shortly before their disappearances. His internet search history also showed significant interest in the Gilgo Beach murders. Later, during the investigation, Haermann's DNA matched a hair found on a burlap bag used to tie up one of the victims.
