Insider information about Apple's upcoming smartphones is increasingly appearing online as their release date approaches. The latest leaks concern not only technical specifications, but also the appearance and release schedules of the devices.
What is known about the iPhone 18?
Despite the abundance of rumors surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro and the flexible iPhone Fold, information about Apple's basic flagships has been scarce until recently. However, new data from a well-known insider Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo allows us to get a clearer idea of what to expect from the standard iPhone 18, writes 9to5Mac.
According to him, the base model will receive practically no changes in external design. The only thing that may distinguish the new product is a slight adjustment of the dimensions of the case, which users will most likely not even notice.
However, such minimal size changes, which Apple often practices, can play into the hands of accessory manufacturers, as users will not be able to use cases and other things from the previous generation and will have to buy new ones.
The iPhone 18 display is likely to remain at 6.3 inches. The insider also refutes previous speculation that at least three models in the line will receive a reduced Dynamic Island notch, as previously reported by another well-known insider Ice Universe. According to new data, the updated compact notch will remain an exclusive feature only for the premium iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models. This confirms the company's strategy of clearly distinguishing between the basic and professional versions of its devices.
iPhone 2
The upcoming iPhone Air 2 is causing even more controversy. Analysts are divided on the matter. It was previously reported that the release of this model could be delayed until spring 2027. This delay was attributed to Apple's desire to add a second camera to the back of the device, which would require additional development time. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also confirms the spring 2027 schedule, although he doubts the second camera will be included in this model.
Meanwhile, Fixed Focus Digital insists on a completely different scenario. It claims that Apple continues to move forward with its standard annual update cycle. This means that the iPhone Air 2 could debut this fall, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold.
According to him, this will be a planned evolutionary update without radical changes to the design or camera. The main emphasis will be on the internal components, in particular, the use of the new powerful A20 Pro processor.
If this version is confirmed, Apple will introduce the traditional four new models in the fall, although the average price of the line may increase. It is worth noting that there is also a cautious assumption that the base iPhone 18 could move to early 2027 along with the iPhone 18e model.
