Rubio considers US support crucial for Ukraine's security

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that American support is crucial for Ukraine's security, even despite the willingness of European countries to deploy a limited military contingent.

Rubio made this statement during a speech to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee regarding Venezuela.

Rubio discussed the role of security guarantees for Ukraine after the war. He said current plans include the participation of European troops, primarily French and British, as well as an American “insurance mechanism.”

“In fact, it is American support that is the key guarantee of security. Without US participation, the role of European troops will not be decisive,” the Secretary of State emphasized.

Rubio noted that the reason for such a strong American role is the long-term underfunding of the defense capabilities of allies and partners over the past 20-30 years. He expressed hope that the situation is changing, and some countries are already taking significant steps in this direction.

“NATO will become stronger if our allies are more capable. But the realities are that the United States has interests around the world, and their support remains crucial,” Rubio added.
