Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian military is participating in consultations on how the Strait of Hormuz will continue to operate. Iran has been blocking the strait since the start of the war against the United States in February 2026.
The president announced this in his address on April 7.
“Safe navigation is a global value. We know this from the experience of protection in the Black Sea. It is necessary that everyone in the world also appreciates this. Of course, the situation now can change every day – and quite significantly, especially considering what is happening with Iran and in relations between Europe and America. But our interests are long-term – everyone in Europe, first of all, this is a security interest,” Zelenskyy told the details.
According to the president, Ukraine has a corresponding request from Asian countries. Work is ongoing at the level of country leaders, at the level of foreign ministries and at the level of other ministries. “The main thing is that we constantly provide Ukraine with real opportunities for defense,” Zelensky stressed.
