Tried to derail a train carrying weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kyiv region: man convicted of sabotage

A man in the Kyiv region has been convicted of sabotage. The court found him guilty of trying to derail a train carrying weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors in court proved that a 43-year-old resident of Chernihiv region was recruited by Russian intelligence. He agreed to carry out tasks aimed at undermining Ukraine's defense capabilities. It is noted that the convict made two special devices for derailing trains and laid them on one of the routes in the Kyiv region.

“The goal was to damage the logistics routes of the Defense Forces and create a threat to the transportation of weapons. To prepare the sabotage, he used his own skills and tools, and also received funding from a representative of the Russian special services,” the report says.

Law enforcement officers exposed and detained the suspect in May of last year. During the searches, evidence of cooperation with the Russian Federation was seized. The court found the man guilty under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 113 Sabotage committed under martial law by prior conspiracy by a group of persons. Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
