Ukraine has a serious energy deficit, next winter will be difficult — Budanov

Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov has announced serious problems in Ukraine's energy sector. According to him, the country is facing a large electricity shortage, which will make the next heating season of 2026–2027 difficult.

Kyrylo Budanov announced this at a meeting of CEO Club Ukraine, a correspondent for Suspilny reports.

“For my part, I would like to say that we have a huge problem with energy. Not in the sense that they are simply turning off the lights, but in principle we have reached a state where, firstly, we have a large deficit. We can go into numbers, but it will be simply scary. It is significant, just believe me,” said Kyrylo Budanov.

He also reported that the cost of electricity in Ukraine is the highest in Europe, and this makes Ukrainian business uncompetitive.

“We need to think about alternative ways. The development of small alternative generating capabilities. You know, it depends on the first part, how long will this all last? Since we do not have a unanimous answer, there is no direct answer to your question either,” Budanov said.

He noted that even if the war ends soon, energy problems will remain. “We have never had such a difficult situation. Next winter is coming, and we must prepare for it now,” Budanov stressed.
