A foreigner was detained in Kyiv who robbed a pensioner under the pretext of selling power tools — police

A 19-year-old foreigner was detained in Kyiv on suspicion of robbing a pensioner's apartment. Law enforcement officers believe that the young man, disguised as an electrical goods salesman, entered the apartment of an 84-year-old Kyiv resident and stole almost 155,000 hryvnias.

This was reported by the Kyiv police on Saturday, April 4.

An 84-year-old local resident reported to the police that his apartment in the Svyatoshynskyi district was robbed. Law enforcement officers determined that an unknown man knocked on the pensioner's door with an offer to buy power tools at a low price. The Kyiv resident agreed and invited the stranger to his apartment.

“Later, the owner took $300 out of the bedroom and gave it to his husband as payment for the goods, after which he went to the kitchen. At this time, the attacker entered the bedroom and stole $2,700, 700 euros, as well as a wallet with documents and bank cards from the bedside table and left the apartment. In total, the suspect caused the pensioner losses in the amount of almost 155,000 hryvnias,” the capital police said in a statement.

The operatives identified the suspect. According to them, he is a 19-year-old foreigner living in Kyiv. The young man was detained and charged under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – theft committed under martial law, as well as under Part 3 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal seizure of a passport and other important personal documents. The maximum penalty is imprisonment for a term of up to eight years.
