“We are waiting for an answer”: Zelensky proposed a ceasefire to Russia for Easter and plans to discuss it with the US

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has proposed to Russia to introduce a ceasefire regime for the Easter holidays and is awaiting a response. He noted that Kyiv also counts on support for this initiative from the United States.

He said this during the second part of the closed meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States with the participation of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas, a correspondent for Suspilny reports.

He noted that Ukraine is counting on the support of the United States, and will discuss this issue with the American team tomorrow.

“We have proposed a ceasefire for the Easter holidays. We hope that the US will support this proposal, and we are waiting for a response from Russia. Tomorrow I will speak with the American team, including on this issue, and we hope for results. Everyone needs results,” the president said.

Recall, on March 30, during a conversation with journalists, Zelensky stated that Ukraine was ready to establish a truce with the Russian Federation for the Easter holidays.

“We supported any formats for ending the war, and you know it. But when you don't lose the dignity and independence of our state and a ceasefire in any format — as we said today: both complete and energetic — we are ready for a ceasefire for the Easter holidays,” the president noted.

Commenting on the possible risks of strengthening the Russian military positions during the so-called Easter truce, Zelensky noted: “They won't be able to strengthen anything in two or three days. We remember that in three days they promised and failed to do what they promised.”
