The European Defence Industrial Programme (EDIP) aims to strengthen Europe's security by increasing production capacity, developing joint defence projects and deepening cooperation with Ukraine.
“This initiative demonstrates our focus on innovation, collaboration and strengthening the technological foundation needed to address current and future challenges. We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the efficient and effective achievement of the program's objectives,” said Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen.
Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius added that now member states, Norway and, for the first time, Ukraine will be able to receive funding for joint projects and scale-up of production.
Around €700 million will be spent on the production of anti-drone systems, missiles and ammunition, and another €325 million will be spent on launching joint industrial projects with Norway and Ukraine. The first projects will start tomorrow, which will be a practical step in strengthening Europe's defense readiness.
