In Ukraine, prices for Peking cabbage have fallen to the level of minimum profitability. Producers are forced to sell their products almost without profit due to surplus and problems with processing.

Why has the price of Beijing cabbage fallen so much?

In Ukraine, prices for Peking cabbage have fallen to a level that barely covers the costs of growing it, AgroTimes reports. Currently, producers sell their products for 10-12 hryvnias per kilogram, which is significantly lower than pre-war rates.

The main factor putting pressure on the market was the crisis in the frozen vegetable segment. Due to the reduction in processing capacities, the domestic market is unable to fully absorb the volumes of fresh produce.

Some enterprises ended up in temporarily occupied territories, while others were damaged as a result of hostilities, which also limited processing capabilities.

At the same time, demand for Ukrainian frozen vegetables abroad remains stable, which gives the industry a chance for gradual recovery. The areas under Peking cabbage have not changed significantly yet, but experts allow for a slight reduction in the next season.

At the beginning of the week, according to EastFruit analysts, the selling price for Peking cabbage in Ukraine was set at 20-28 hryvnias per kilogram. Channel 24 journalists investigated the cabbage market in Ukraine, and currently the prices for cabbage in popular supermarket chains are as follows:

  • ATB 30.95 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Varus 30.90 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Silpo 34.10 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Megamarket 49.50 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Novus 34.99 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Dmart.ua 29.90 hryvnias per kilogram.

Onion prices are falling rapidly: farmers are massively selling off their stocks

  • Onion prices in Ukraine fell by 19% in a week due to a surplus of medium and low quality products.

  • Weak demand and rapid deterioration in product quality are forcing farmers to sell onions cheaper than in the same period last year.
