A 37-year-old Kyiv resident will go on trial in the capital. He is accused of defrauding a woman by promising her mobilized husband “service in the rear.” A case has also been opened about unauthorized abandonment of a military unit.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv.
According to the case materials, the Kyiv resident learned about the victim's husband's mobilization through his wife. She works together with the woman.
The suspect then initiated a meeting and convinced the Kyiv woman that he allegedly had the necessary connections among the military, and thus could help transfer her husband to a unit located outside the combat zone.
“He estimated his 'services' at $5,500. The next day, the defendant received the agreed amount of money from the woman, after which he stopped contacting her,” the report says.
Law enforcement officers detained a suspect. He is a serviceman who left his place of duty without permission. Investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 190 Fraud committed under martial law and Part 5 of Article 407 Unauthorized abandonment of a military unit or place of service of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanctions of the articles provide for up to ten years of imprisonment.
It was previously reported that the capital's prosecutors sent the case materials regarding a 43-year-old resident of Vinnytsia to the court. According to the investigation, the man promised to negotiate for $5,200 to declare a conscript unfit for service and remove him from military service.
